How to install Respondus Lockdown Browser

Some exams will require you to use Respondus Lockdown Browser to lock your computer until the exam is complete. To install it, you will need to use this link on a computer. You can also reach this link with FSU’s Instructional Software page under Respondus Lockdown Browser. Respondus provides some detailed instructions on their website on how to install it on your devices. We will restate these instructions below as well.

Windows

  1. Use the Respondus Lockdown Browser Link to reach the installer page.

  2. Click “Download”.

  3. Select your downloads icon, and click the install file for LockDownBrowser. The Lockdown Browser page will note where the downloads icon is with a large arrow.

If you have any trouble finding the downloads icon on your browser, you can also find the install file by going to your Downloads folder in File Explorer.

  1. Windows defender may pop up a warning confirming if you want to run Respondus. Select “Yes” to continue.

  2. The installer should run after this. Select your language of choice, agree to the Terms of Service, and then the install should be finished from there.

Mac

  1. Use the Respondus Lockdown Browser Link to reach the installer page.

  2. Click “Download”.

  3. If you get a pop-up asking if you want to allow Downloads from respondus, click “Allow”. Then run the installer from your downloads icon in your web browser.

If you have any trouble finding the downloads icon on your browser, you can also find the install file by going to your Downloads folder in Finder.

  1. You may see a warning from MacOS about running the installer. Click “Allow”.

  2. The installer should continue running. Click Continue, then Continue and Agree to the Terms of Service. Select “Install for All Users”, and enter your admin password for your Mac if you are prompted to do so. After a few minutes, the installation should be finished.

Chromebook

  1. Use the Respondus Lockdown Browser Link in your Chrome Browser. This will take you to the Chrome Web Store so you can install the Respondus Browser extension to Chrome.

  2. Select “Add to Chrome”.

  3. Select “Add Extension”. After that LockDown Browser should be added to Chrome.
