Hybrid Instruction Classrooms

Hybrid Capable Classrooms – Gira CCIT 156, Compton 224, Cordts PE Center 220B

Specialized equipment has been installed in all three rooms to allow for hybrid teaching modes via WebEx and Microsoft Teams in addition to traditional use.

Usage:

The classrooms have a touch panel OR panel with buttons that control on/off, which source is displaying on the projector or television, room speaker volume, and other functions.

1 - Starting the system:

Gira CCIT                                                                                                                Compton and Cordts PE Center

  •  Press the "ON" button
    • The Gira Touchpanel will show a message that the system is starting up for six or more seconds.

2 – Choosing What you want to show on the screen(s) - Projector(s) or TV

Multiple Screens (Gira)

  1. Choose Display (L or R Projector)
  2. Choose the source (Laptop HDMI)
  3. Repeat 1&2 for the other Projector

Note: Touchscreen only - If the source does not come on, you may have to select it a second time

or select something different and then select the source you want.

Also, note there is a Mute button for the ceiling (Student) microphones to the lower right of the screen.

Single Screen (Compton & Cordts PE Center)

  1. You only need to choose a source button

3 – Starting Class

  1. For non-hybrid classes, proceed as normal (there is a microphone if you need to boost your voice - see wireless microphone #4)
  2. For Hybrid classes conducted via WebEx or Microsoft Teams:

Note: All three classrooms have wireless microphones; Compton also has a stationary mic at the lectern

For hybrid classes, there are Logitech (Logi) Cameras, Ceiling Microphones, and other hardware.

First, have your computer on, and be sure you have your cell phone or a device to authenticate a Duo request.

Be sure to install the Duo app on your smartphone if you have not already.

Duo's "Send Me a Push" screen is at the left.

4 – Microphone (includes Sound Reinforcement for room)

    Using the Wireless Microphone:

ON

  1. The on switch is at the top of the unit. You press for around ½ second to turn on.
  2. You will see lights and a small screen that lets you know the microphone is on.
  3. Place the microphone capsule on (clips on to clothes). We recommend around a hand’s width from the bottom of your chin.

Note:  Sometimes you can place the microphone in a manner that it moves and points toward your neck/chest.  If you hear a lot of rumbles, double-check where the microphone is.  It may be pointing straight into your skin or clothing.  Adjust as necessary. You may want to carry an extra battery in case the last person to use the wireless microphone left it on overnight or it is at the end of its life.  It will start sounding distorted when the battery is nearly dead.

OFF

  • To turn the microphone off, use the same button at the top until the light and screen are off

5 - Camera for WebEx or Microsoft Teams:

There is a Logi Rally Camera in all three rooms.  Select it as the Webcam in WebEx or Microsoft Teams.  You can do this after starting a meeting if you forgot initially.

“Logi” is Logitech

Note: Epson ELPDC11 is the document camera.

6 - Audio for WebEx or Microsoft Teams:

Speakers – Set to ExtronScalerD

Microphone – Set to Echo Cancelling Speakerphone

7 - Logi Rally Camera Remote Control:

Used to control the (Logitech) Logi Rally Camera

Buttons:

1 – Preset #1

2 – Preset #2

Magnifying Glass – Zoom In (Top) or Out (Bottom)

Wheel – Moves camera left, right, up, down

Red Camera with a  / through it  -  Turns camera off

The cameras are in the rear of each classroom close to the center.  You can point the remote in that general direction to control.

For most instructors, the presets will be all you need to use.

  • If the camera is off, the lens points straight down, see image below.
  • If the camera is on, the lens will point toward you.
